We always planned to return to Hawaii for our 20th Anniversary, November 24th, 2004.  OK, so we were eleven months early... But when we found this trip, we decided we were ready to go!

So, we left on Amtrak from Temple, Texas on the evening of Christmas Eve,

railed through the west all Christmas day,
   
changed trains in Los Angeles early on Dec 26th, and rode the Surfliner along the California coast,
   
 to San Diego.
